Earlier in the autumn, I was delighted to be invited to take part in celebrating the official opening of Sobell House’s outpatient facility and ward extension. It was a really lovely afternoon, with visitors and residents able to see the new building and gardens.
I first got involved with Sobell House two years ago when I was asked to design the garden at their planned new extension at their Oxford site. The garden incorporates three main features: privately screened areas so that rooms facing the courtyard can have the beds wheeled outside; private spaces and separate seating areas for patients and their families to wander and sit in peace; a secure and secluded space for nurses and carers to take a break and draw breath during the working day.
