BEFORE & AFTER :: Grade-II listed Merchant House @merchanthouse_cotswolds in the Cotswolds has been refurbished to create a lovely country retreat.
The client requested landscaped terraces accessed from the house through bi-fold doors, providing two outdoor dining areas, a lawn to languish on and a raised terrace with sofa seating.
Beautiful planting and a simple water feature to give interest throughout the year in this lovely walled garden.

LATE SUMMER FLOWERS : : some amazing entries into the Annual Show in Charlbury last weekend.
The weather has been kind to the vegetable growers with all the rain we had, so many entries this year particularly the giant marrow.
The flowers however, were spectacular with beautiful Chrysanthemum and amazing Dahlia’s – my favourite for this time of year.
I love to include these in my planting schemes.

FIGS : : Literally dropping from my tree at the moment – beautifully ripe.
Planted on my terrace, with roots contained within a raised planting bed to encourage fruiting.
Ficus carica ‘Brown Turkey’ – my favourite variety for planting here in the UK, more tolerant of our weather than others.
Tonight’s supper will be: Baked figs with Goats cheese, with Honey and grain mustard dressing – inspired by Nigel Slaters @nigelslater recipe.

Last week was #NationalAllotmentsWeek with a focus on soil health.
On my allotment I decided to adopt the No-dig approach as pioneered by @charles_dowding No Dig Gardening where you leave your soil undisturbed as much as you can. Just adding compost, either homemade or bought in twice a year. It works on all soil types including heavy clay and my Cotswold brash.
And no back-breaking digging!
Runner bean glut are this week pickings, proving it’s working!
Have you tried No Dig Gardening?

BRITISH FLOWERS WEEK : : this year’s theme is aptly healing and reflection of the positive joy and soothing effect flowers can have on us.
There is nothing like cutting flowers from your own garden to create beautiful flower arrangements for your home.
Photo credit and thanks to @jamjar_flowers for these beautiful British blooms.

GROW YOUR OWN : : allotment joy... broad beans, homegrown and first of the season. Trialling 3 different varieties [Karmazyn, Imperial Green Longpod & Super Aguadulce] this year for taste and cropping.
My mother used to serve these with Parsley sauce, but my chosen recipe is in a salad with Peas and Goats cheese with a fresh mint dressing.
How do you like to eat yours...?

EXHIBITION : : Wisley is one of my favourite gardens, and last week @rhswisley announced they have re-opened their gardens.
I am really looking forward to pre-booking my ticket to visit the unmissable exhibition of The Four Seasons sculpture, by contemporary American sculptor and filmmaker Philip Haas.
The exhibition has been extended until 31st December 2020 which gives us lots of time to visit.
Will you be visiting the exhibition?
